In June 2022 three senior scholars of the Leipzig Bach Archive — Christine Blanken, Christoph Wolff, and Peter Wollny — presented a new, thoroughly revised edition of the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis. Over a period of 12 years, we reviewed every work attributed to Bach and aimed at incorporating the current state of scholarship. In our session the three authors will discuss the principal features of the new work catalogue, talk about its background, and offer some thoughts about future perspectives.
To join the meeting, you will need the meeting ID and individualized passcode, which will be sent to you in the registration confirmation email.
Christoph Wolff, Adams University Professor Emeritus at Harvard University, directed the Leipzig Bach Archive from 2001 to 2013 and recently published Bach’s Musical Universe: The Composer and His Work (W. W. Norton: New York, 2020).
Peter Wollny is the current director of the Leipzig Bach Archive (since 2014) and Professor of Musicology at Leipzig University. He has published extensively on J. S. Bach, the Bach sons, and the Bach family in the 17th century.
Christine Blanken is senior research fellow of the Leipzig Bach Archive and also teaches regularly at Leipzig University and Hochschule für Musik. She is currently working on a new edition of Bach’s organ chorales.
